Prior to booking a car for rental in Uganda ensure the car you are being give is insured. It should have both comprehensive and third party insurance policy. Comprehensive insurances is when are is covered against any damages and dents that might happen to the car that are beyond the driver’s control while third party insurance is when the car is covered against any social damage it might cause during an accident like injury a person by the roadside and also causing damage to any property along the road. All competent car rental companies in Uganda have both third party and comprehensive insurances.
Furthermore there should be immediate road assistance. There should be car mechanic assistance within your destination proximity that would help the traveler in case of any mechanical breakdown of the car. He should help the traveler in the earliest time possible in order the traveler to commence his/her voyage.

Look for the damages and dents on the exterior and the interior of the car
Find out if the necessary parts of the car are in good condition i.e. door locks, side mirrors, driving controllers, lights, radio, indicators, and wipers
Put the driver seat and the driving mirrors in the best position you fill you can best use them
Get accustomed to the routes of the destination by studying the available touristic map or let the car rental company teach how to read the GPS.

Do not get out of the vehicle until you are in a safe place like in local town or near a gas station or supermarket
Always keep on the main road/ highway. Do not get carried away to use feeder roads to get to your destination so fast. If you take the feeder roads you might lose your bearings. Simply stick to the maps or GPS.
Keep your luggage in the cargo cabin and make sure that any strange people do not raise any suspicion that you are visitor in their town
Never make a stopover in strange places that is dark places.
