Uganda Martyrs’ Day
Held every 3rd June, this is the biggest day in Uganda attracting faithful Christians from all over the world. This is the day to remember the 22 Ugandan Catholic Martyrs and 23 Anglican martyrs who were killed between 1884 – 1886 by the late Ssekabaka Mwanga. The Catholic martyrs were canonised by by Pope Paul VI on 18 October 1964.
Their feast day is 3rd June on the International Catholic Saints Calendar and the faithfuls in Uganda gather at the Namugongo Martyrs’ shrine and Nakiyanja Church to remember these courageous martyrs who did not denounce their faith.
The event attracts faithfuls from the rest of Africa most especially Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania who celebrate together with the Ugandans the feast day of these martyrs.
Kampala City Carnival
Held for the past three years, this annual event has been held along the Kampala – Jinja Road. It is fast becoming the most popular cultural event in Uganda. Celebrated every first Sunday of October, this event is part of the Independence Celebrations for Uganda. Hundreds of people flock the streets and enjoy this carnival organized by the Kampala City Council Authority. Kampala city festival is a signature brand that draws multitudes to Kampala every first Sunday of October to celebrate culture, unity and provides immense networking opportunities for business.
